This Aspen model simulates the process for condensing n-butyraldehyde (NBAL) to 2-ethylpropylacrolein (2- EPA), and the subsequent reduction of 2-EPA to 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH). The condensation process chosen for evaluation is based on Davy McKee patents, with the caustic soda condensation catalyst included in the purification distillation. The hydrogenation process chosen for evaluation is a two-stage isothermal hydrogenation process. The primary stage is vapor-phase hydrogenation, and the second stage is liquid-phase hydrogenation.
