In this paper an efficient numerical method is proposed for solving the specific nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equation which is a combination of the variation iteration method and the spectral collocation method. This method is easy to implement and possesses the high-order accuracy. Illustrative examples are provided to illustrate the validity and reliability of the propose method. In the current work we obtained exact solution for nonlinear free vibration of nanotubes (NTs) with surface effects incorporated to Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and von Karman geometric nonlinearity. We used Jacobi elliptic functions to obtain the nonlinear natural frequencies. Normalized nonlinear natural frequencies and the phase trajectory were studied with the presence of surface effects.
